Tom Brady’s last NFL coach pitched for Colorado staff

Tom Brady’s last NFL head coach before he retired following the 2022 season, Todd Bowles, was pitched by BuffsBeat’s J’Mar Smith to be a defensive analyst on Coach Prime’s Colorado football coaching staff amidst a mass exodus of personnel from Boulder.

“There’s a candidate out there who would be perfect to help this team and its defensive struggles as an analyst,” Smith prefaced before saying, “Todd Bowles. The current Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach could be the missing piece in Boulder. Bowles is riding the hot seat down in Tampa and he could likely be on his way out. If that were to happen, Coach Prime needs to jump at the opportunity as fast as he can.

“Bowles has had much better success as a defensive coordinator than as a head coach. In the five seasons where he was appointed defensive coordinator he has a record of 52-29. In his three years as Tampa Bay’s defensive coordinator the team ranked in the Top 5 in run defense while being in the top 10 in interceptions. This defense has just what Todd Bowles likes, hybrid corners he can move around for his blitz packages.”

Coaches with Tom Brady connections continue to be linked to Coach Prime’s Colorado football staff

This isn’t the first time a Bucs coach with TB12 connections has been brought up as a potential Coach Prime hire this offseason. Former Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich has been tabbed as a potential Sean Lewis/Pat Shurmur replacement.

“Being Tom Brady’s former offensive coordinator could help (Leftwich’s) cause knowing Sanders is deeply involved with the NFL GOAT,” BuffsBeat’s Josh Tolle wrote. “Also, being a former quarterback himself could pay off big dividends as he knows what goes on as a QB and could bring more rapport in CU’s QB room. Leftwich worked under Bruce Arians as well who was a coach that was more than willing to air the ball out. Not to mention, Leftwich has been on the sideline in Boulder for games this year.”

The odds are high that Deion Sanders is going to bring in a host of big-name NFL stars from yesteryear to add credibility to his coaching staff in front of recruits and their families. Imagine having a Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator and Warren Sapp walking into your living room. Now imagine telling them you’ll pass on Colorado.

Whether that leads to success is the key to Coach Prime sticking in Boulder for the long haul once his kids move on to the NFL.
