After the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins in Germany, Irvin had plenty of praise for Mahomes.
“Patrick Mahomes is basically God playing quarterback,” Irvin said.
“He doesn’t have quite the talent he needs at wide receiver, but he always makes just enough plays to keep them in the game.”
“He’s a phenomenal, phenomenal talent.”
Fans were quick to point out that Irvin’s NFL opinions haven’t been very consistent lately.
On the pregame before the Chiefs-Dolphins matchup, Irvin actually picked the Dolphins to win over the Chiefs. Hearing him come out and change his opinion rubbed some fans the wrong way.
“I sure remember him being on the Dolphins bandwagon and saying some not so nice things about our QB,” one fan said on Twitter.
“Is that why he picked against us?” another fan said.
“Isn’t this after he said he’ll never be able to catch up to Brady?” another Twitter fan said.
“I don’t care about the context, it’s just silly to put these quotes out there.”
Mahomes got the win 21-15 against the Dolphins but didn’t have a spectacular game.
His 185 passing yards were a season-low, and he only managed to connect with Travis Kelce three times.
The Chiefs are currently 7-2 heading into their bye week.
They will take on the Philadelphia Eagles next on November 20.
