Jurgen Klopp makes “insane” observation on Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez – “Everyone can see”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was quick to praise Darwin Nunez after the striker’s eye-catching performance in Sunday’s impressive 3-0 win over Brentford in the Premier League

Jurgen Klopp has lauded Darwin Nunez’s incredible work-rate after the Uruguayan striker impressed in Liverpool’s comprehensive 3-0 win over Brentford on Sunday.

The Reds cantered to victory against the Bees courtesy of a brace from Mohamed Salah and a late strike from Diogo Jota. And while Nunez failed to get his own name on the scoresheet after seeing two goals disallowed, he still made a significant impression in Liverpool’s final Premier League outing before the international break.

After a challenging maiden campaign at Anfield, the £85million forward has looked far more dangerous this term – and Klopp was quick to label him as the “standout” player in the wake of yet another impressive performance.

When he was asked about Nunez’s contribution, Klopp replied enthusiastically: “Outstanding! Outstanding! Everyone can see; look at him how he kept the ball for us, who would of thought that last year? That he could do that for us. [The] standout was Darwin because Brentford wanted long balls so he started the pressing. [His] work-rate was insane.”

Nunez managed just nine league goals last year but has already plundered four strikes in 11 games this term for Klopp’s men and has proven to be a highly effective focal point for the Reds.

Sunday’s result means Liverpool head into the international break just a point and a place behind Manchester City at the Premier League summit – but Klopp insisted that nobody at Anfield will be getting carried away.

The German said post-match: “We showed a top reaction today [after disappointing results last week] but we need to keep going. If we are there in March or April, we can talk. Until then we just fight our way through toughest league in the world.”

Liverpool will face Manchester City in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off after the international break – just days after a host of players jet off around the globe to represent their respective countries.

And Klopp took the opportunity to hit out at the personnel responsible for such scheduling decisions. He added: “How can you put the Man City game on at 12:30. These people don’t feel football. There could’ve been a moment when these two teams have 30 international players, we pick up the South Americans on one plane to arrive here.”
