In a heart-wrenching courtroom revelation, Lindsay Clancy reportedly confided to her husband during a chilling phone call that a male voice compelled her to “𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 her children and 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 herself.” This 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 testimony emerged Tuesday as a psychologist recounted their conversation following the tragic deaths of Clancy’s three young children.
Clancy, 36, reached out to her husband Patrick Clancy from her hospital room at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on February 6, 2023—just over two weeks after the devastating incident. Psychologist Paul Zeizel, who had been treating her, detailed how she expressed her love for Patrick before sharing the harrowing message she believed she received from an unseen force.
“She told Patrick that she loved him very much,” Zeizel recounted in court. “She said she heard a male voice ordering her, telling her that she didn’t have any choice, that she had to 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 her children and 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 herself.”
Zeizel, who first visited Clancy two days prior, was called to testify by her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington. When questioned about whether he had suggested Clancy fabricate her experiences, Zeizel firmly denied it. Reddington is advocating for a not guilty plea based on insanity, arguing that Clancy was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis exacerbated by powerful psychiatric medications.
However, prosecutors contend that Clancy meticulously planned the tragic events, indicating she was not experiencing psychosis at the time of the killings. They pointed out that she had never disclosed hearing voices to her medical providers, raising critical questions about her mental state leading up to the incident.
Dr. Donald Condie, a psychiatrist who testified for the defense, suggested that Clancy may have concealed the extent of her mental struggles due to fears of losing custody of her children. This sentiment was echoed by Clancy’s former mother-in-law, Sue Clancy, who described Lindsay as a loving and nurturing mother but acknowledged her ongoing mental health battles prior to the tragedy.
The courtroom was filled with emotion as Dr. Elizabeth Laposata described the fatal injuries inflicted on Clancy’s children, who were aged five, three, and just eight months. Clancy reportedly used elastic exercise bands in the horrific act, and the children likely lost consciousness within seconds.
In a startling turn, it was revealed that Clancy had participated in a race just hours after giving birth to her youngest child, Callan, in May 2022. This detail added another layer of complexity to the narrative surrounding her mental health.
As the trial continues, the jury will hear further testimony, with Zeizel expected to return to the stand. The case has captured public interest, raising profound questions about mental health and the tragic circumstances that can unfold within families. What will the jury ultimately decide in this heartbreaking case?
