A 15-year-old boy is now facing a first-degree murder charge after a 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 attack that left a community reeling. The victim, 78-year-old John Wesley Allen, was allegedly targeted by a suspect wearing a clown costume, according to authorities.
The incident unfolded at a bus stop in East St. Louis, Illinois, where Allen was reportedly waiting. Police say the teen suspect was dressed as a clown, and doorbell camera footage captured him walking through the neighborhood, brandishing a large knife.
In the chilling video, the suspect can be heard saying, “I have a gift for you,” outside a home. Allen, a retired bus driver and Navy veteran, was found dead on the street Monday, having just gotten off the bus, family members believe.
Relatives are struggling to make sense of the tragedy. “He didn’t know my brother. He just came up and randomly started stabbing him,” said Allen’s sister, Marie Stanford, through tears.
“That doesn’t make sense.”
Allen was known as a devoted family man and regular churchgoer, affectionately called “Baby Boy” by loved ones. “He was the best brother someone could have,” Stanford added. “We always checked on each other.”
The teen suspect was arrested at a nearby home and has remained in custody since. Prosecutors in St. Clair County are pushing to try him as an adult, which could lead to a longer sentence if convicted.
He appeared in juvenile court Thursday and will be held until at least his next hearing.
