In a ๐๐ฝ๐ธ๐ธ๐๐พ๐๐ revelation, the mother of 16 children, who were recently rescued from a deplorable living situation in Ohio, had previously faced legal trouble for failing to ensure her kids attended school. Court documents reveal that Elizabeth Siders and her husband, Gary Siders Jr., were charged with truancy in October 2021 after six of their children were reported absent from Addaville Elementary School.
The couple was accused of neglecting their educational responsibilities, as their children, aged between 7 and 13 at the time, had racked up an alarming total of 72 hours of unexcused absences during the 2021-22 academic year. In Ohio, a child is considered habitually truant if they miss more than 42 hours of school in a single month.
The truancy case was ultimately dismissed in January 2022, with Judge Thomas Moulton Jr. noting that the Siders family could not be located for legal proceedings. Gary Siders Jr.
declined to comment on the matter when approached by reporters.
The family’s dire situation came to light when authorities discovered them living in a home filled with waste in Hamden, Ohio, while executing a warrant related to another case. Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson described the scene as ๐๐ฝ๐ธ๐ธ๐๐พ๐๐, stating that investigators had to wear masks due to the overwhelming conditions. He remarked that the children appeared โalmost feral,โ highlighting the severity of their living environment.
Among the children found, the oldest is reportedly 18 years old, born just months after Elizabeth and Gary Jr. were married. Authorities indicated that many of the children are developmentally disabled and unable to communicate effectively, complicating the investigation.
The home was subsequently sealed off by law enforcement, and the Siders couple, along with Gary Siders Sr. and Christina Siders, were taken into custody on charges of child endangerment. All four have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Recently, a judge ordered a competency evaluation for Gary Siders Sr. to determine if he is fit to stand trial. He has been released on bail due to a serious medical condition that requires specialized care, which could potentially impose a financial burden on the county.
As this disturbing story unfolds, many are left wondering about the future of the children and what will happen next for the Siders family.
