Newly released police documents have 𝓮𝔁𝓹𝓸𝓼𝓮𝓭 a chilling sequence of events in the brutal daylight stabbing death of a Texas mother of five, revealing that one of the smiling sisters accused in the murder allegedly brought the knife and the others may face additional charges for trying to cover up the crime.
The documents, obtained by Law and Crime, show that 21-year-old Kitty Diaz and her 20-year-old sister Cookie Diaz, along with friend Kandra Faz, 19, are now facing murder charges after Caro Peña, 32, was stabbed three times in the back and stomach on June 25 in Del Rio.
According to the police narrative, it was Cookie Diaz who allegedly brought the knife to the confrontation and struck the first blow, stabbing Peña in the back. The attack was captured on a doorbell camera at the home where the altercation took place, showing the sisters and Faz physically assaulting Peña.
But the case took a new twist when police discovered that the Diaz sisters had changed clothes and showered after the attack, a move that has led to an additional tampering with evidence charge against Kitty Diaz.

The sisters were arrested just two hours after police were called to the hospital where Peña was fighting for her life. She later died at a San Antonio hospital.
This new information comes as video of the sisters being arrested has gone 𝓿𝒾𝓇𝒶𝓁. In the footage, both Cookie and Kitty are seen smiling and even joking. Cookie Diaz can be seen laughing as she is led away.

Retired homicide detective Phil Waters, who analyzed the case for Law and Crime, said the smiling demeanor will not bode well for the suspects at trial. He noted that the use of a knife is particularly personal and brutal, requiring close contact with the victim.
According to the police report, Faz told investigators that Peña showed up at her house “looking to start a fight.” But Waters argued that self-defense is not a viable argument in this case given the video evidence and the coordinated nature of the attack.

The suspects are all being held on $5 million bonds. The case continues to develop as authorities await indictments and search for the murder weapon.
The smiling sisters’ behavior, the quick arrest, and the alleged cover-up have only deepened the mystery surrounding what led to this violent confrontation in a quiet Texas community.
