Chelsea now planning on talking with 21-year-old over ‘lucrative’ new contract in the next few weeks

Chelsea are ready to open talks with one of their players over a new contract before the end of the season.

This summer, Chelsea‘s priority is likely to be getting rid of members of Mauricio Pochettino‘s first-team squad.

Over the last few transfer windows, the Blues have spent a lot of money on signings.

They now appear to be in a position where they may have to sell players to meet the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.

Conor Gallagher is one man who could be sacrificed, with it being claimed that Newcastle United recently scouted the midfielder.

Chelsea plan to hold talks with player over new contract

There are a few players who you would expect to be untouchable in the next transfer window.

Levi Colwill is thought to be attracting interest from other clubs, but according to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea have no intention of selling him.

Then there is Cole Palmer, who certainly will not be going anywhere this summer.

In fact, a report from the Daily Mirror has just claimed that Chelsea plan to hold talks with the 21-year-old over a new “lucrative” contract before the end of the season.

It is something that the attacker probably deserves after the campaign he has had. In 39 appearances for Chelsea, Palmer has come up with an incredible 36 goal contributions.

Why Manchester City should not have sold Cole Palmer to Chelsea

City have a lot of attacking talent, including Bernardo Silva, who was the match-winner for his side against Chelsea yesterday.

However, the Portugal international turns 30 this year and continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona.

Eight years his junior and occupying the same positions as Silva, Palmer could have been the perfect long-term successor to his former team-mate.

Of course, it is public knowledge now that Palmer wanted game time this season, which Pep Guardiola could not guarantee, so there probably was not much City could do once Chelsea came knocking.
