‘Franticness!’ – Chelsea full go-around legend Cole Palmer left dazed as his late objectives seal 4-3 win in ‘insane’ end against Man Utd

Chelsea’s hat-trick hero Cole Palmer described his side’s dramatic 4-3 win over Manchester United as “madness”.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Red Devils looked to have secured a huge three points after Alejandro Garnacho’s double and Bruno Fernandes’ header, which appeared to have cancelled out Palmer’s penalty and Conor Gallagher’s opener, but a second spot kick in the 100th-minute and a 101st-minute winner completed a dramatic win. After the match, an almost disbelieving Palmer tried to sum up his feelings.

WHAT COLE PALMER SAID

“I don’t know [how Chelsea came back],” he told TNT Sports. “[We were] 2-0 up and like I said last week we had silly mistakes. When the eight minutes got added on it gave us a lift – madness. We need to try to win as many games as possible. To win like that, there is nothing better. We thought when we scored the second goal the fans lifted us and I saw the gaffer say there were two minutes left and thankfully I scored.”

He added: “You know I have taken many penalties, I am not going to miss a penalty, touch wood. To score on the last minute is crazy.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Palmer has arguably been one of the signings of the season after scoring his 19th goal of the campaign following his move from Manchester City last summer. He also has eight assists to his name – more than any of his team-mates.

Despite the 21-year-old joining City at the age of eight in 2010 and spending 13 years at the club, Palmer admitted to being a United as a youngster.

On supporting the Red Devils, he said: “Yes when I was growing up. I take each game as it comes and show the Chelsea fans.”

WHAT NEXT?

Palmer’s Chelsea, who are up to 10th in the Premier League, will have to recover and go again when they travel to Bramall Lane on Sunday to face bottom of the table Sheffield United. The Blues are now two points behind seventh-placed West Ham with two games in hand.
