‘Touch let him down’… Local media criticises 21-year-old Chelsea loanee for yesterday’s display

There’s actually been a mix of success when you delve into how well Chelsea’s current crop of loanees have performed this season away from Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have continued their trend of loaning out some of their best youngsters this year, which is essential given the amount of players on the books.

If you’re looking for the biggest winners, the likes of Omari Hutchinson at Ipswich Town and Harvey Vale at Bristol Rovers spring to mind.

On the flip side, someone like Armando Broja has had a rough time since joining Fulham on loan.

Chelsea loanee has tough night

David Datro Fofana, who’s currently out on loan at Burnley, is a Chelsea-owned striker trying to prove he’s Premier League level.

The 21-year-old striker returned to Burnley’s starting line-up yesterday for their 1-1 draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Premier League fixture

He played the full 90 minutes, earning himself an moderate 6.3 match rating with FotMob.

Local media certainly wasn’t impressed by what they saw from Chelsea’s Fofana on Tuesday evening for Burnley.

The Burnley Express wrote: “David Fofana – 5/10. Far too quiet and struggled to get in the game. Touch let him down and he produced one shot he almost toe-poked out for a throw-in.”

David Datro Fofana future

Despite an off-night against Wolves, Fofana’s done well since joining Burnley on loan in January.

The fast striker has four goals in nine appearances for the Clarets, who do seem destined for relegation this year.

Speaking via the Premier League’s official website last month, Alan Shearer praised Fofana and named him in a Team of the Week.

Our gut feeling is that Fofana’s best path may be to go out on loan next season, preferably to another top-flight club.

At this moment in time, he looks like an even rawer version of Nicolas Jackson.
