Constantine star Tilda Swinton reveals she may not be reprising her role as Gabriel in the upcoming sequel.
Speaking to Inverse, the actress was asked whether she would be involved in Constantine 2 as Gabriel. Swinton replied stating the film’s creative team had not reached out to her, although she left a small possibility of being contacted late. The actress then acknowledged this as highly unlikely as Keanu Reeves, who played the titular anti-hero John Constantine in the first film, is rumored to be replacing Swinton as the archangel Gabriel.

Swinton stated, “I’m sorry to have to tell you that I know nothing about this sequel except that I’ve heard it’s happening. Unless they’re very late in calling me, I don’t think Gabriel will be flapping his/her wings. I did hear a rumor, I don’t know if you heard it, that Keanu was going to play Gabriel. Which would be beautiful.”

While original Constantine director Francis Lawrence is returning to helm Constantine 2. At the time of publication, Keanu Reeves is the only actor confirmed to be back for Constantine 2. Since the end of the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the sequel is seemingly moving forward, but no other actors have been announced yet.
Peter Stormare has been speculated to return to Constantine 2 as Lucifer Morningstar, as Stormare was the one who sparked rumors about the sequel back in November 2020 when he hinted at Warner Bros. actively developing it. Other actors who are possibly not returning in the sequel include Shia LaBeouf as Chase Kramer and Rachel Weisz as Angela Dodson.
The film is slated to be a part of DC Studios’ Elseworlds branding, which includes various projects that won’t take place in the mainline DCU continuity. Matt Reeves’ The Batman and Todd Phillips’ Joker may receive the Elseworlds branding in their next installments, The Batman Part II and Joker: Folie a Deux.
