The Chiefs’ AFC Wild Card matchup with the Miami Dolphins on Sunday was the fourth coldest game in NFL history.

Temperatures dropped to -4°C with a -27°C wind chill as Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City punched their ticket to the Divisional Round with a 26-7 victory over former teammate Tyreek Hill.

But surviving those sub-zero conditions is not for the faint of heart, as Travis Kelce recently demonstrated with his nasty-looking war wounds.

Appearing on his New Heights podcast with brother Jason, the future Hall of Famer showed off what appeared to be bloodied and scratched hands picked up in the Dolphins clash.

Many NFL fans questioned what caused the cuts and shared their theories on social media.

“Oh my god, Travis’ hand is so scratched, like did his football glove do that?”, said one concerned fan.

“Looks like he got stepped on by a cleat,” suggested another.

“If you watch the video from the locker room when Andy Reid is congratulating them on the win, you can see him in the back ground flexing that hand. It was obviously hurting,” wrote a third.

In the clip the third fan was referring to, Kelce could be seen rubbing his hand in discomfort after the game while sat behind Reid.

However, others were less sympathetic to Travis’ injuries, with one person joking that one of Taylor Swift’s three cats caused the scratches.

“So which cat did this to Travis’ hand? Benji, Olivia, or Meredith?” the posted on X.

It’s hardly surprising players picked up bumps and bruises on the icy field at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Kelce explained during the podcast the field was “100-percent rock hard” while calling the cold temperatures ‘shocking.’

“When you go out on the field, it’s like, the temperature just drops right now and you feel it in your hands, you feel it in your toes, your face … I could feel my moustache hardening up,” he explained.

“There are certain parts of the field where – I don’t know if it’s just the way the wind hits the stadium or whatnot – [but] it’s colder, it’s icier.

“You knew that it was going to be hard when you hit the ground regardless.”

The KC tight end also revealed he had to ‘run over to the heaters’ to warm up his hands and feet to to try and get the feeling back whenever he wasn’t in the game.

Thankfully, Kelce has not appeared on the injury report this week and looks good to go for the Divisional Round contest with the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

The Bills overcame extreme weather conditions of their own to beat the Steelers 31-17 on Monday night after the game was rescheduled from Saturday following a blizzard.

The encounter only went ahead because of the efforts of ‘Bills Mafia’ who were filmed shovelling snow out of seats prior to kick-off.

According to the latest weather reports, Orchard Park, where the Bills’ Highmark Stadium is located, is set to be hit by snow once again leading up the Chiefs game.

However, the snowfall is not expected to be anywhere near as heavy as last weekend, meaning the Chiefs-Bills clash should go ahead as planned.

Still, expect it to be a very cold one.
