Henry Cavill admits Ben Affleck’s buff bulked-up body on Batman V Superman inspired him to ‘work harder’ at the gym

He may play THE Man of Steel, and have the muscular physique to suit such a title.

But Henry Cavill has admitted that his Batman V Superman co-star Ben Affleck gave him a run for his money in the body building department during the epic superhero face-off flick.

Speaking on Tuesday’s Good Morning America, the 32-year-old actor explained that Ben, 43, had got himself into such good shape that he felt the need to hit the gym and get a ‘little bigger’.

‘It does help certainly to have that little bit of stigma’: Henry Cavill has admitted that his Batman V Superman co-star Ben Affleck gave him a run for his money in the muscle department during filming

Henry – who has reprised his role as DC’s iconic hero Superman for the movie – revealed that Batman newcomer Ben provided him with the motivation to get back into the gym and bulk up.

‘It does help certainly to have that little bit of stigma in the back of your head that you’re never quite good enough, so you keep on working harder,’ the Jersey-born actor explained.

He added that he felt he ‘worked a little harder on this one [the film],’ which resulted in the star getting a little bigger in stature than he previously looked on Superman reboot, Man Of Steel.

More steel needed? Speaking on Tuesday’s Good Morning America, the 32-year-old actor explained that Ben, 43, had got himself into such good shape that he felt the need to hit the gym and get a ‘little bigger’

The Tudor’s star explained there was some healthy competition (in his eyes) between himself and Ben, saying: ‘When you see Ben on set and everything and he’s in good shape, it makes you want to go back to the gym that morning and work a little harder.’

And while the winner of Superman and Batman’s upcoming fight is cloaked in mystery, Henry hinted that he thought he’d have no problem winning in dust-up between himself and Ben.

Asked who would win in a real-world fight between himself and Ben – who is 11 years his senior – Henry couldn’t help but imply that he would emerge the victor.

Bigger than ever: The Superman star explained his mindset, saying: ‘When you see Ben on set and everything and he’s in good shape, it makes you want to go back to the gym that morning and work a little harder’

‘If there were really a fight, I mean come on, let’s just think about that for a second…’: The Superman actor joked that he thought he’d be able to win if it was just the pair as mere mortals going head-to-head

‘If there were really a fight, I mean come on, let’s just think about that for a second… I’m not saying that out loud, I’m merely inferring it,’ joked the actor.

And while Henry has already signed up to play Superman and his alter-ego, Clark Kent, in a further two DC film – The Justice League parts one and two – it seems Ben has developed a taste for the cowl.

Speaking to EW the actor and director revealed he was very keen to reprise the role after he was finished with his current filming commitments.

He said: ‘ There’s definitely willingness and a will and a desire to make a Batman movie on the part of Warner Brothers… When I’m finished with (his current movie project), I’ll then focus on my next movie and figure out what that will be.’

Getting sweaty: Meanwhile Henry’s next challenge is set to be a grueling 13K race for charity

Reach for the summit? The Superman star looked to be focused on being in peak physical performance for the run in his native Jersey

He needs a montage: Posting a montage of his training for the run – climbing a grueling flight of stairs – presumably on the set of Batman V Superman

On a fun run? The action hero even appeared to be contemplating doing a fun run, as one of his outfits consisted of a bathrobe, superman tee and a plastic showercap
