Marvel was rumoured to have been considering recasting disgraced Jonathan Majors with Will Smith
Jonathan Majors was let go by Marvel after his π eπ₯ual harassment conviction
Marvel may be in deep trouble after losing its rising star Jonathan Majors β but theyβre not desperate enough to hire Will Smith as his replacement.
With Majors out of Marvelβs big picture after his π eπ₯ual harassment conviction, speculation started brewing online that Smith would take over as the studio is forced to βoverhaul their next wave of movies and showsβ that were dependent on Majors for the βnext several years.β
However, a source shut down the rumours, telling theΒ Daily MailΒ that recasting Majors with Smith β who has previously starred in superhero films β would be like replacing βbaggage with more baggage.β
The insider further noted that deliberations on whether to recast or completely rewrite things will continue for several months, βbut Will Smith will not be the replacement.β
Reputation expert Eric Schiffer further reasoned to the outlet that casting Smith would be a βdeluded and reckless bloodbathβ that could spark βa brutal backlashβ among fans.
βMarvel execs probably snapped out of it and figured that Will remains radioactive – in a way thatΒ AvengerΒ fans would likely see as annoying,β Schiffer explained.
Schiffer further noted that the snub from Marvel is probably best for Smith anyway, as βthe last thing Will needs is to play a villain in 2024.β
Owing to his ongoing controversial image from Slapsgate 2022 and the revelations made in his wife Jada Pinkett Smithβs memoir,Β Worthy, Schiffer further predicted that β2024 wonβt be the year Smithβs reputation returns.β
